Top Tips for Less Stress this Festive Season
The festive season is upon us, a time for gathering with friends and family, unwinding and celebrating with your loved ones. The pressure on having the perfect day can be intense though with stress levels high throughout the season and late nights throughout December it can leave us feeling drained and burnt out. We’ve compiled our top tips for less stress this festive season.
Stress can compromise our immune system, digestion and leave us feeling run down so we need to look after ourselves at this busy time of year. Meditation, yoga, getting outside and exercising can help us to balance sources of stress in our lives. There are also a range of restorative herbal supplements known as adaptogens that we can use for a little extra support when under extra stress. Here are our top tips for less stress this Christmas…
- Don’t Slack on Sleep: Don’t compromise sleep, as this can spike our stress hormones, causing sugar cravings and low immunity, leaving you vulnerable to falling ill. Good quality restorative sleep will give us more energy for the festivities and help our overall health.
- Self-Care: Make sure you do something every day for yourself. Whether a short daily meditation, yoga, exercise or getting out for a walk in nature- having a self-care practice can help you to feel balanced and less stressed throughout the season.
- Exercise: It can be hard to stick to your regular workout routine this time of year with dark mornings and afternoons and unpredictable weather. Set yourself some weekly workout goals and if possible exercise outdoors, getting some daylight and fresh air can help you to feel less stressed.
- Adaptogens: Adaptogenic herbal supplements can help our body to adapt and cope during stressful times, improving our resilience to the damaging effects of stress and bringing balance to the body. Rhodiola defends the body against stress and protects general health, as well as supporting energy levels, and endurance. Holy basil is another excellent adaptogenic herb, known for its benefits for stress reduction and supporting relaxation. Ashwagandha helps to support the adrenal glands and evidence supports its ability to reduce anxiety and stress.
