Spring Cleanse with Milk Thistle Alive

Spring brings new life, as the weather warms up and the days begin to get longer, we are presented with a powerful opportunity to renew and revitalize on all levels. Day in and day out our bodies are battling to eliminate harmful wastes, dealing with all kinds of stressors, as well as environmental toxins, processed foods and more. We’ve never in our history faced such a toxic load, which is why it can be good to give it a little extra seasonal support, with a gentle spring cleanse with herbs, rather than any drastic deprivation measures.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) spring corresponds to the liver and gall bladder, making this the ideal season to restore vitality to the body, gently support our detoxification processes, shed excess weight, eliminate built up toxins and support our digestive and immune systems too. The turning of the seasons and the spring equinox are the perfect time for rejuvenation, and our favourite supportive herb for a gentle spring cleanse is Milk Thistle.

Milk thistle is a flowering herb related to the daisy and ragweed family, it is a traditional European herb that promotes healthy liver function and supports detoxification. It has a history of use dating back to Roman and Greek usage and was traditionally used to treat liver and gallbladder disorders, promote breast milk production and even protect the liver from poisoning from chemical and environmental toxins (1).

Silymarin is the main active in Milk Thistle, it is anti-inflammatory and a potent antioxidant that supports rejuvenation in the whole body from the liver to the skin. It has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic benefits, and has been used for various liver disorders (2). It is a bitter tonic and helps to support the flow of bile, as well as revitalising and strengthening the liver, supporting effective detoxification and normalising liver function.

Milk Thistle has also been used for centuries as a natural treatment for upper gastrointestinal tract and digestive problems (3), and is a useful herb for times of overindulgence.

Many forms of Milk Thistle are very aggressive, but our new fermented Milk Thistle Alive offers a much gentler, but effective cleansing option. In its fermented form, all the beneficial compounds Milk Thistle contains become much more potent and bio-available, and when fermented pose less challenges to the liver. We also add organic Ginger root to the formula which is an excellent warming, bitter herb, that helps to support our enzyme production and stimulate liver and digestive function. Added to this we use no alcohol, fillers, or binders in the product which place an additional burden on the liver, and the body; not what we want when we are looking to support well-being.

If embracing a spring cleanse, we recommend eating well, exercising regularly, getting enough rest, and staying hydrated to maintain your body’s natural functions, alongside the use of supportive supplements like Milk Thistle Alive.

Milk Thistle Alive includes fermentation activated Milk Thistle, organic Milk Thistle and organic Ginger root which work synergistically to support the whole body. We use the ancient art of fermentation to activate the herb into a far superior form. We ferment the finest organic Milk Thistle using a month long fermentation containing 35 select species of micro-organisms from kefir and kombucha cultures. This activation delivers the complete synergy of the whole herb within a living food matrix for exceptional vitality and bio-availability.
